2025 marked a crucial year for Chenghai Institute of Global Development and Security (hereinafter referred to as Chenghai Institute) as it transitioned from "preparation and layout" to "in-depth development of disciplinary systems" and "development of intellectual products". Adhering to its principle of conducting discipline-based strategic issue research, Chenghai Institute sets agendas for disciplinary development and strategic research, striving to become a center for intellectual capacity development.
Looking ahead, Chenghai Institute will continue to uphold its core mission of producing original intellectual products, committed to achieving dual breakthroughs in both the breadth and depth of academic research. We will further promote academic exchanges at home and abroad, gather top talents with a global vision, and continuously deepen the exploration of the construction of Chinese-style modernization and global governance.
In January 2026, A History of World Politics (three volums) were published. It follows the logic of parallel worlds – the rise of the liberal imperial world order – awakening, liberation and the restructuring of the world order, focuses on political studies, and constructs the new historical studies form of the combination of history and concepts.
On April 20, 2025, World Politics Research Center was established, which provides new platform and opportunities for world political studies.
Throughout 2025, Chenghai Institute has generally established the autonomous knowledge system that explains the rise of China, based on disciplinary development of historical policitcs studies and world political studies, focusing on national strategy of comprehensive development and security. A series of academic products of strategical siginificance have been produced, covering key areas such as the logic of national rise and fall, manufacturing security and global development strategy, realizing the booming of academic outcomes of strategic agenda. These products have received attention from key departments, and provides insights for policy making, theoretical innovation and practical exploring.
These works includ annual reports: Chenghai Global Development Report 2025, Chenghai Global Security Report 2025, and 2024 Annual Report on Anglophone Scholarship on Chinese Governance and Foreign Policy; research reports: From Real Economy to Virtual Economy: The Decline of Great Powers, and The EU Economy amid a Century of Global Change: Breaking Through the Economic Dilemma of Intertwined Supply and Demand; and 10 sessions of China and the World Order.
In 2025, Chenghai Institute persists on enhancing academic ground and strengthening thinking, focusing on the big stretegy research of comprehensive deveopment and security and the theme of constructing big thinking of human civilization new form. Through multiple academic activities of high standard and quality, it has built a communication platform of global impact.
In the future, Chenghai Institute will connect China and the rest of the world with opener attitudes. We will strive to uplift China's experience to a wider China's wisdom, thus promoting a new world development order and the advancement of human civilization.
